Saturday, January 13, 2007 - ASWSC 20th Anniv West Palm Sailfish Tournament Back

Congrats to the crew, Ben, Trey, & Tim, for leading us to a 2nd place win!

After two practice days with zeroes and with the unselfish help of our competitors, we slowly figured out how to catch a sail.  We kept pace with the leaders on days 1 & 2.  On day 3, we went 1 for 4.  With 10 minutes of fishing time left, we heard the drag scream and our hearts raced, could we have a tie and thus, 1st place by tie-breaker? Nope, it wasn't meant to be, we've never been so disappointed to see a dolphin jump!

We finished one fish off the lead for second place. Here's a video compilation of our fishing during the event:

I think 2nd was a great showing considering our complete lack of experience and never having fished as a team before.  The 1st place crew had been fishing the area for 30 years and the club tournament for 20 years.  Showing up as complete greenies & pulling off 2nd place is a real victory for Team $EA $ICKNE$$!

The trip was a great experience.  Sailfish Marina is a great place to stay & fish.  The ASWSC is a great group to fish with, and learn from.  Can't wait 'til next year!

Ben & Trey w/our 1st bite.

I don't know if this new species is Hall of Fame or Shame! We later learned that the turtles would seek out kite baits and had to keep an eye out for them raiding our $7 live baits.

HOF - 1st Sailfish for Team $EA $ICKNESS - Ben Adrien (his 1st sailfish) 11JAN7 10:14 a.m.

Boat Logo shot.

Another way to lose a $7 bait ! That had to hurt!

Tom's 1st Atlantic Sail!

Another bait stealer, but also Ben's 1st dolphin ever.

Another new species for Ben, a Jack Crevalle (or as one local says - Lavalle)

Tim & Trey pose w/Ben's 2nd sailfish.
