Donny, Daniel & I tried to head down for an offshore trip for some blue h20 trolling and then do some overnight swordfishing. Once again, the sea's didn't cooperate despite a willing crew. We arrived OB well into the wee morning hours, so crashed in the lounge at the storage yard for a few hours and took our time heading out.
We tried to fish the NE end of the Nipple on Sunday, but sea's were kinda steep running dead E out of Perdido Pass, then confused, so took a better angle which led to the 131 hole. Lines in a 200' when we saw lots of flying fish. Kept trolling to the 400-500' contour, but no bites. Word around us was the Nipple bite wasn't on.
We heard of an 80# wahoo close to us in the 200' h20, one sail at the nipple, and another wahoo in the 60-70# range. After not seeing much of any consistent bait in the deeper h20, we decided to head back in the 200' range again at least where we saw signs of life. With our new CMap barymetric chart for guidance, followed a nice trough back in to the target area. Donny noticed something chasing the long bait, likely Mr. Whitey. He chewed on 3 different lines before sneaking away un-hooked. I had the drags on the lighest setting so they'd just pull w/out creeping, but the fish never really took anyline, just seemed to sample each bait.
Well with the weather ignoring the forecast 1-2's, fish not cooperating, and plenty to do on Monday, we decided to cancel the overnight portion of the trip, head in and salvage Monday as a family day. It really bites as this was our third attempt to get off and try for a sword. Oh well, just that much more anticipation before we finally manage to do the trip.
