We are back in Guatemala on the Pacific doing a little fishing. We are greeted by good weather and hungry fish. We fished on board "Serena" with Captain Carlos. Sails were everywhere. We probably raised close to 20 sails. After everyone had their turn on a couple of fish, Tom decides to pull out the fly rod. Pacific sailfish on a fly rod!! You betcha. It was a dream of Tom's to do this. After a couple of failed attempts to lure the sails over to the fly, we all wondered if Tom's dream would come true. Well on the 3rd try, it was on!! Tom and sail went toe to toe for several minutes. The fight was lengthened by the light tipet weight (20#). Ultimately Tom won that fight. Sam was next on the fly rod. He too had the pleasure of landing his 1st sailfish on a fly rod.
Guatemala is a beautiful country with a rich culture, great food and an awesome fishery. Easy flights in and a short 90 minute ride to the coast from the airport.
