Fished out of Ideal Marina this weekend. 1st time in the new boat. Great to be back. It's been my favorite grouper area. Didn't catch a single keeper grouper out of Mobile / Pensacola all year. Did hook a red snapper or 2.
Seas were perfect Sat. (less than 2') and good Sunday (2-3'). Fished in 45-50 feet both days. Caught about 25-30 grouper each day between me and Snapperslapper. Its tough keeping bait in the water with only two people in the boat and 4 rods in the water. But we managed. We trolled up a few keeper gags on our trusty stretch 30's, but most of the action was on live pinfish. We slow drifted most of the day using my sea anchor, and marked fish. Limited out each day, Sunday in less than 2 hours. Great welcome back to the area. Hope this is a sign of how good the winter fishing is going to be this year.
